The Tower

I cannot scale the tower within

I am sure to lose my footing

I’ve tried to climb that tower

For the reflection I’d be put in

If I ever were to mount it

I would surely see

Each and every soul

I’ve regarded less than me

At its base the tower is good

The cornerstone set by a child

But as the tower was built

Each stone lay more defiled

The mason did not build this tower

How the child planned it

The directions, they were lost

To reckless abandon

So it’s hard to climb the tower

The rise, it is not straight

The surface is distorted

And the stones are bound to break

From atop the tower

I would surely see

The broken, careless man

The mason that is me
